The New Orleans Police Department saw five crimes hit the city on Sunday (9.3). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), the NOPD responded to two rapes, an attempted armed robbery, a simple robbery, and a fatality.
At the intersection of Higgins Blvd. and Maudlin St., a 55-year-old man was approached by two unknown men at 3:17PM. One subject asked for a cigarette. The man refused, at which time the subject pointed a semiautomatic handgun at the man and demanded his property. Again the man refused, and the two perps the reportedly walked away before returning in a blue car, unknown make or model. The subjects pointed the gun and verbally taunted the man, who eventually got on the bus and left the scene.
At 3:22PM, a known male was sexually assaulted by a known female he met online on the 2200 block of St. Andrew St.
The MOL recorded an account of a fatality on the 2900 block of Audubon St., as witnessed by the driver of a green SUV. According to the witness, a 44-year-old man was traveling “at a high rate of speed” on his motorbike up Audubon St. at around 8:45PM. The driver of the green SUV stopped at an intersection, and drove once all lanes of traffic were clear — at which time the motorcyclist ran into the back of the SUV. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
At 1:40AM, a female was sexually assaulted by an unknown male at the intersection of Bourbon St. and Canal St.
A 32-year-old woman, a 33-year-old woman, a 39-year-old man, and 27-year-old man were walking on the 700 block of Canal St. when three unknown women and one unknown man approached them at 4:17AM. The three women attacked the two female victims, and the male perp attacked the two male victims. One of the victim’s purses was stolen, at which time the perps fled on Canal toward the river.
