The New Orleans Police Department saw eight crimes hit the city on Thursday (8.24). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), the NOPD responded to an attempted simple robbery, two armed robberies, two suicides, rape, a stabbing, and an unclassified death.
22-year-old Freddie Norwood was arrested following an attempted simple robbery on the 500 block of St. Charles Ave. At 5:11AM, Norwood allegedly followed a 33-year-old female acquaintance to her hotel. When she arrived, he tried to grab her cell phone and punched her in the face. Norwood gave chase, and a nearby NOPD officer apprehended him.
On Tuesday, August 21st at 6:30AM, a 68-year-old man went to his car on the 3200 block of Desoto St. and saw his car door open. An unknown masked man armed with a gun demanded money from him, at which time the victim toss the perp his wallet. The perp fled with cash in hand. The report was made at 11:01AM on Thursday.
At 2:11PM, the friend of a 53-year-old woman went to her house on the 5800 block of Albany Ct. after not being able to get in contact with the woman. After looking through windows, the friend saw the victim had hung herself. She was pronounced on scene by EMS.
At 2:45PM, a known female was sexually assaulted by a known male on the 2000 block of Lakeshore Dr.
A 24-year-old woman went to a local park on the 200 block of Roosevelt Mall and committed suicide at 3:01PM, the MOL reported.
Residents of the 4000 block of St. Ferdinand St. observed flies and a foul odor coming from the home of a 66-year-old man. At 6:41PM, the landlord went into the residence and found him unresponsive on the floor. He was pronounced on scene by EMS.
On the 30 block of French Market Pl., an argument between a known woman and 57-year-old man occurred at 10:32PM. At some point during the altercation, the woman pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the man on the right side of the chest. According to the NOPD, he refused treatment from EMS.
At 11:15PM, a 25-year-old woman was driving an acquaintance to the 800 block of St. Andrew St. Upon arriving at the location, the passenger pulled out a gun and demanded the woman’s property. When the driver said she had nothing, the perp began “digging” in the car before pulled a gun out of the center console. The woman then fled the car, and the perp too fled the vehicle to a nearby residence.
