Overnight Crime Report: Homicide, Shooting, Rape, Muggings, Unclassified Death

The respite from crime is over. The Major Offense Log (MOL) for Sunday (4.24) included nine incidents including a homicide, a juvenile rape, armed robberies, and shootings according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).

 

At 12:23a.m., an unknown man and woman were sitting in a car on the 3900 block of Louisiana Parkway when a stranger approached and began shooting at them reported the NOPD. The male was declared dead. No further information was available at press time. 

 

At 10:40a.m., an argument at the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calliope Street escalated into violence when an unidentified man was shot according to NOPD PIO Dawne Massey.

 

Police said that a gunman walked into Fountain Services’ warehouse on the 1400 block of Montegut Street at 11:00a.m. and demanded cash from an employee. The victim refused the order and the perp fled stated Massey.

 

The Department is looking into two unclassified deaths. A 68-year-old man was found dead on bathroom floor of a house on the 900 block of Opelousas Avenue by his brother reported the NOPD. At 3:11p.m., a woman found her 52-year-old friend dead in a house on the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

 

At 4:08p.m., a 21-year-old man was driving on an overpass near Port Street and North Galvez St. when he felt a pain and then realized that he had been shot reported the NOPD PIO.

 

The Log included an account of a 5-year-old boy being raped by his 13-year-old cousin on the 7600 block of Avalon Way.

 

Around 2:25a.m., a 47-year-old man went outside of his house on the 3600 block of Bennett Street for a cigarette explained Massey. She added that the man’s family then heard a loud “pop” and rushed outside to discover that the man had shot himself. He was rushed to University Medical Center for treatment.

 

At 4:37a.m., three men with handguns allegedly jumped out of a car at the corner of Sixth Street and Baronne St. and mugged a 39-year-old man of his wallet and cellphone.
