Crime levels stayed low for the third consecutive day. Still, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a shooting, a rape, and a carjacking according the Major Offense Log (MOL) for Saturday (4.23).
A 14-year-old child was shot at 7601 Downman Road at 2:09p.m. according to NOPD PIO Aaron Looney. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of a non-threatening wound.
Police reported that at 2:01a.m., a 31-year-old woman was raped on the 3000 block Marais Street.
25-year-old Michael Portis and 17-year-old Dashawn Lowery were arrested for carjacking at 2:29a.m. at 5206 N. Derbigny Street. Looney stated that the duo forced a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman out of their auto and then drove off with it. However, police said that Lowery and Portis ultimately drove the car back at which point their descriptions were sent out on the police scanner. A foot chase ensued and the two men were caught according to the NOPD.
