Overnight Crime Report: 3 Rapes, Stabbing, Suicide, RTA Snatcher

Six crimes, a suicide, and an unclassified death kept the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) busy on Wednesday (4.21) according to the Major Offense Log (MOL). In addition to the deaths, the Department reported three rapes, a public transit theft, and a stabbing.


The NOPD reported finding a 25-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gun wound on the 7200 block of Bunker Hill Road at 10:08p.m.


A man called the police from Texas and asked them to check on his 20-year-old wife because he had not heard from her for about a week explained NOPD PIO Dawne Massey. Massey said that at 1:00p.m., officers and a property manager found the woman dead from unknown causes at her home on the 4900 block of Miles Drive.


Officers opened investigations into three unrelated rapes. Massey stated that a woman reported being sexually assaulted on the 2700 block of Sage Street at 5:31p.m. At 6:58p.m., detectives were contacted about the rape of a juvenile at an unknown location. At 11:45p.m., a 14-year-old girl reported being sexually assaulted on the 1600 block of Hero Boulevard according to authorities.


Around 9:20p.m., a 29-year-old man RTA operator had his backpack stolen while he was making change for the perp according to authorities. The PIO said that the victim chased the thief to the corner of Rousseau Street and St. Andrew St. where the thief pulled out a gun and made his escape.


An arrest warrant was issued for 38-year-old Maya McQuirter on charges of Aggravated Battery. Police said that at 10:16p.m. McQuirter stabbed a 48-year-old man during an argument at a house on the 5200 block of Constance Street. The victim was taken to University Medical Center and McQuirter remains at large.
