Ella Brennan has been a legend in culinary circles for decades, but now a filmmaker is bringing the dining diva’s story to the silver screen. A two minute trailer for Leslie Iwerk’s documentary “Ella Brennan” featuring a gaggle of restaurant industry bold faced names was just released.
The film traces Brennan’s work building fine dining not just at Commander’s in New Orleans, but also her influence on the industry across America. The work features interviews with local names such Chris Owens, Leah Chase, Emeril Bagasse, and Gene Bourg with international superstars like Daniel Boulud, Danny Meyer, Drew Nieporent, and Tim and Nina Zagat.
In one clip, Julia Reed explains, "Ella was a celebrity restauranteur before there were celebrity chefs."
Iwerks is a member of a different type of dynasty. Her grandfather, Ub Iwerks, co-created Mickey Mouse. Her father, Don Iwerks, also worked for the House of Mouse where he began a long career of pioneering special format cameras, projectors, and venues.
