It seems like yesterday that the concept of putting a Whole Foods on Broad Street seemed absurd. However, the upscale market was built and has thrived in the 300 North Broad location. On Thursday (2.04), the location will celebrate their one year anniversary with a public party.
“We like to celebrate our store’s anniversary. It’s been a great year and it's a way to celebrate the milestone and also a way to highlight Refresh and our community partners.”
The event will include workshops, music, and of course, food. At 10:30a.m. and 2:00p.m., Refresh will offer farm tours focused on growing your own food. From 12:00p.m. until 2:00p.m., Liberty's Kitchen will host a meet and eat. At noon, St. Aug’s Brass Band will serenade guests and a birthday cake will be rolled out. And, beginning at 5:00p.m. samples galore will be served all night.
Whole Foods Broad Street boast an impressive record of community involvement over the past 365 days. Bradford explains that the location has “provided more than 1,200 hours of healthy eating education in the Broad St. store and surrounding community, including activities at Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center and Ruth Fertel Clinic, classes on meals for four under $20, 28-Day healthy eating challenges, and how to eat healthy on a budget tours.”
In addition, the store hired five Liberty’s Kitchen graduates in the last year and teamed up with the Kitchen as well as Boys Town and FirstLine Schools for workforce training
