Cocktails and Charcoal

Prospect 3 may be winding down on Saturday (1.24) night, but the art scene in NOLA continues year round. Right after the wrap party at the Ogden slows down, an opening party will take place.

Ben Hamburger will open “Recomposed,” a mixed media work at Belloq (Hotel Modern, 936 St. Charles Avenue.) Hamburger is a New Orleans based artist with a focus on trying to conjure the “visceral feelings evoked in people, places, and relationships” that he has encountered.

Hamburger says that the Recomposed’s “paintings, drawings, and collages are rooted in a fundamental passion for figurative art.” However, with the new series, he changes processes. The artist revisited older drawings and then divided each of the eclectic works into several components. Those pieces of the whole were then assembled into collages in different variations to form a new whole. Hamburger compares the product to the human condition: “a hash of the new and the old. figurative and abstract, deliberate decisions and unintentional ones.”

Of course, no opening is complete without libations. Instead of the traditional white wine, Bellocq will offer cocktails in keeping with the CureCo outpost’s reputation. A classic colonial, cognac punch will be on hand gratis for guests.

Bellocq Managing Partner, Kirk Estopinal describes it as “satisfying” which he explains is indicative of late nineteenth century punches. The proud publican adds that the punch is “rich, but has a nice citrus edge which keeps it nice and balanced.”

The event will also feature playlist from DJ Lagniappe.

The festivities begin at 9:00p.m.
