Kenny Vaccaro is not having a merry Christmas. Following a season ending loss to the hated Falcons, the Saints safety learned that the NFL was fining him 10,000 dollars for a late hit to Atlanta running back Stephen Jackson.
In the first quarter of Sunday’s 30-14 loss, several Saints defenders had Jackson tied up in a pile. Vaccaro lowered his shoulder and took a shot at Jackson. He was warned by the ref, but not flagged on the play.
Vaccaro does not see anything wrong with the hit and plans to appeal the fine. In several interviews he criticized the NFL’s crackdown on “launching”. On his Twitteer account, he reweeted, Prime Football’s “@AaronNagler the running back wasn't down. That is what we used to refer to as “football”." Vaccaro also emphasized that his intent was not injure Jackson but the creating a situation when the ball might pop out.
Vaccaro is in his second year. After a standout rookie season, he has struggled this year. Consequently, the safety has seen diminished playing time.
