Hot Boudin & Cold Musicians

Tonight, The Mosquito Supper Club hosts a Zydeco Boogie in the once abandoned and now repurposed St. Maurice Church. The Supper Club's mission is devoted to celebrating Cajun Culture. On the menu Sunday afternoon (1.04) from 4p.m. to 8p.m. are boudin and other hot food, along with ice cold beer and music by local accordion player Corey Ledet and his Zydeco Band.

The event is open to the public and a great opportunity to visit the interior of St. Maurice, as well as see the unique, technically inspired altar slated to convert Zydeco beat into visual waves.

The Mosquito Supper Club curates parties that cultivate Cajun music, food and cultural traditions. Their flagship Supper Club was developed with the local shrimpers, oyster fishermen, crabbers and farmers that in large part define the cuisine of our South Louisina roots.

The Lower Ninth Ward Church, has become the new home for musical performances breathing new life into the ethereal (though now deconsecrated) space.  The Lower Ninth Ward Senior Center Choir and Murmurations Choir initiated the series by lending their voices. Nels Cline of Wilco performed with Rob Cambre back on Nov 15 as part of Airlift's Space Rites series.

Airlift is a local artist driven organization founded post Katrina. Sound Technician and creator of the altarpiece Taylor Lee Shepherd (the brains behind the Music Box Shantytown), says the project is all about recognizing the changing and evolving Ninth Ward community and acknowledging the underground art scene.

“We’re at this weird moment here in this neighborhood," the artist theorized. "The old and the new are coming. It’s all happening right now. It’s changing terribly fast. But it’s changing and I feel like this is sort of an acknowledgement of that. Everybody is totally united by this one thing… and it’s music.”
