Wounded NOPD Officer John Passaro Remains in ICU, Suspect at-Large

A New Orleans Police Department officer shot twice on Saturday morning remains in the intensive care unit, officials said Monday. John Passaro, a three-year veteran of the department, was wounded as he responded to an armed robbery at a Bywater Dollar General located in the 1100 block of Poland Ave. around 7:30 a.m.


NOPD said he Passaro remains in good spirits, and his family is "touched" by the visitors who have stopped by to show their love and support.


Authorities said the man used a .380 semi-automatic handgun of an unknown make and model.


Officials have also released an updated description of the suspect. 


They describe him as being between 35 to 40 years old, with a light complexion. He is around five feet, seven inches, and weighs between 140 to 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a plain gray zip up hoodie jacket, dark or blue jeans and an unknown type of shoes, officials said. He also wore a pair of dark, wrap-around sunglasses and a white bandana with blue paisley print on it. The bandana covered his mouth and was positioned over the bridge of his nose.


He carried a black drawstring bag with a white Nike "Swoosh" emblem on it.


CrimeStoppers is offering a $10,000 cash reward for anyone with information about this case.
