While You Were Out

The city is pulsating and the NOPD's focus lasers are out, but let's face it: Coming back to work after the holidays leaves a little lag in the swag. Plus, you feel out of the loop. So, allow us to catch you up some non-football happenings. Despite a 2011 murder rate 14 percent higher than 2010, Chief Ronal Serpas talked about his confidence in the police force. But the City didn't make it 24 hours into 2012 without a homicide. Before that, a 40-car pileup killed 2 and closed I-10 in the East for a long time. Click through for news that's not about death.

A second Occupy NOLA encampment was evicted in Central City, leaving the movement homeless yet again. Or, at least, not saying where their homes are.

Twelfth Night is around the corner, and Carnival news already started sprouting up. Patricia Clarkson, actress and daughter of City Council prez Jackie Clarkson, was named the Krewe of Muses' celebrity rider - the EveryMuse - for 2012.

In other news thespians will appreciate, the Saengar Theatre renovations are at last set to get underway, and the Joy Theatre officially reopened across the street.

In Big Oozy news, the feds are set to bring criminal charges against BP, but that's not stopping them from trying to recover all the costs of cleanup from Halliburton.

That about brings us up to date, at least until the apocalypse.
