The Silicon Bayou has been buzzing with news. SBN announced a call for nominations for the Silicon Bayou 100, a list of the “coolest people in tech and entrepreneurship.” The public is encouraged to nominate active participants and leaders in the local tech, entrepreneurship, and digital and social media world by October 15, 2011. SENO Announces 2011 PitchNOLA Finalists: PitchNOLA 2011: Innovative Ideas for Social Change is a New Orleans social innovation “elevator pitch” competition featuring 10 Finalists who have financially sustainable ideas to solve a social and/or environmental problem.  The event, a collaboration between SENO and Tulane University, will feature a panel of judges giving real-time feedback to the social entrepreneurs. Ten finalists were announced to participate in the October 6th competition.

 

Digital media school invading Lafayette in January: Things are about to get a lot more technical in Lafayette. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) has announced a partnership with The Academy of Interactive Entertainment. The Academy will be operating out of the LITE Center at the ULL Research Park beginning in January of 2012.

 

NOLA Start-Up Rebirth Financial Presents At FinovateFall: Last week, local start-up Rebirth Financial unveiled its new JAS Rating System in front of a crowd of over 1,000 at the FinovateFall conference in New York City. The conference presents the latest in financial innovation from around the world to an audience of financial institutions and venture capital firms.

 

Local financial adviser talks social media with the Wall Street Journal: Jude Boudreaux, a financial adviser based in New Orleans, was featured in the Wall Street Journal sharing his view of the impact of social media on his business. The article discussed, “a growing group of financial advisers who are embracing all kinds of social media to develop closer relationships with clients and gain exposure to potential clients, particularly younger investors.”

 

Louisiana Film Industry Seminar to Feature DreamWorks Research & Development Supervisor: The Entrepreneur’s Organization and LSU’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute are joining forces to present a September 30, 201, seminar on the Louisiana Film Industry. The seminar features Marty Sixkiller, Research and Development Supervisor at DreamWorks and Louisiana native. Marty will share his story and give a presentation on career opportunities in computer animation. As a part of the seminar, attorneys from Kean Miller, will present information that effects the film industry in Louisiana. Phyllis Sims will present on film tax credits and Sonny Chastain will present on intellectual property in digital media.
