Weekend Crime Round Up: Cutting on Calhoun, Bullets on BourbonUnfortunately, New Orleans lived up to its dangerous reputation this weekend. Dozens of crimes occurred all over the city, leaving one Bourbon Street strip joint short on dough and many other victims hospitalized and/or relieved of their cash. From Calhoun to Canal, criminals kept the NOPD busy this weekend.
Sadly, the people cutting up on Calhoun Friday morning were doing so literally. Around 1am, an incident occurred at Robert’s Bar (3125 Calhoun) in the Tulane University area near Claiborne. A bar fight occurred between one man and some unknown individuals, leaving the victim with a stab wound to his neck. He is currently in stable condition.
In the 800-block of Canal near the CVS in the wee hours of Saturday morning, a sudden altercation left one man with multiple stab wounds. A group of men report they were crossing the street around 2am before being approached by two other unknown males. Fighting ensued, and one of the suspects stabbed the victim on the left side of the neck, the middle of his chest, and on both of his shoulders. The victim is currently in stable condition at Tulane University Hospital.
Not long after the Canal Street cutter vanished into the night, a mugging occurred on the 2200 block of Decatur. (In case you’re curious, that’s the intersection of Esplanade by the old power substation.) Around 3am, the victim said he was returning to his car when two unknown men exited a nearby vehicle from the passenger side and then proceeded to steal his wallet and backpack. The suspects re entered the vehicle and fled the scene.
Bourbon Street’s notoriously seedy Little Darlings Gentlemen’s Club was the scene of a robbery and shooting Sunday morning at 5:30am. After the manager let the last employee out of the establishment, he retired to his office to count the night’s earnings. Shortly thereafter, an attacker kicked in the locked door, shot the victim in the leg, and knocked him unconscious with the gun. When the victim regained consciousness, all of the cash was missing.
Police obtained video of the incident, and are looking for the suspect:
