We Live to Eat! Restaurant Week Kicks Off In NOLA

One could argue that every week is Restaurant Week in New Orleans, but next week, they’d be right. We Live to Eat Restaurant Week kicks off this Monday, September 8, and runs through the Sunday the 14th. Local heavyweights like Antoine’s, Emeril’s, Commander’s, and Ruth’s Chris are set to participate, as well as newcomers like Booty’s and Mizado Cocina.

During Restaurant Week, selected local establishments offer two-course lunches and three-course dinners arranged prix fixe. Lunch runs $20 or less, while dinner is capped at $39, allowing curious diners to sample curated offerings from new and old favorites without breaking the bank.

The Louisiana Restaurant Association hosted a kickoff party last night (9.3) at downtown event venue The Chicory, where half a dozen participating restaurants offered up samples from their featured menus.

A particular standout was a ginger, melon, and mint julep salad from Commander’s Palace, featuring petite melon cubes, cucumber, and macadamia nuts served ceviche-style in a ginger-mint yogurt vinaigrette. Beginning on Monday, the salad appears on Commander’s Restaurant Week lunch menu as an appetizer. After the salad, lunchers may choose between braised pork belly and oyster brochette, lemon barbecue chicken thighs, or gin-lacquered shrimp and grits.

Across the room, Drago’s Seafood Restaurant offered boudin-stuffed shrimp, while Galatoire’s brought along a taste of its featured vegetarian entree, a parmesan broth risotto. GG’s Dine-O-Rama served up an intensely rich seven-cheese macaroni, topped with salty bacon and jalopeño rings. The super-powered mac is available with a shrimp BLT wrap in GG’s lunch special next week.

This year, We Live to Eat partnered with Eat Fit NOLA, the healthy-eating program from Ochsner’s Elwood Fitness Center. Lighter items with the best nutritional profiles will be highlighted with an Eat Fit NOLA logo on Restaurant Week menus.

Hungry diners can check out the full listing of participating restaurants and their menus at the We Live to Eat website, or through the new We Live to Eat app in the iTunes Store.
