Watch Tank and the Bangas's NPR Tiny Desk Concert

National Public Radio (NPR) named NOLA's own Tank and the Bangas the winner of their annual Tiny Desk Contest. Out of over 6,000 entries, the group unanimously won the contest, which seeks to find the shining star of the modern music scene.

Tank and the Bangas combine hip hop, spoken word, soul, and R&B into a rhythmic powerhouse performance. Lead singer Tarriona Ball has the pipes to out-sing and upstage many of her local peers, and the mixture of influences and genres culminates in one of the better live experiences found in the New Orleans live music scene. Just take it from one of NPR's judges Trey Anastasio (of Phish fame), who said the group is "a psychedelic joy rap explosion. Like a female Sly Stone teleporting into 2017 and landing in New Orleans."

In their Tiny Desk concert, the group performs their winning song "Quick," as well as songs "Rollercoasters" and "Boxes and Squares."

The group will be hitting the road in April with NPR Music for a nationwide tour. Once they're back in town, be sure to see them take the stage at Mid-City's Bayou Boogaloo.
