Walk-On's Named Best Sports Bar in North America by ESPNWalk-On's Bar and Bistreaux is fairly new to the scene down in the shadow of the Superdome, but it's already risen to the top. And, best of all, it stepped over Atlanta on its way there. The gameday gathering spot was named the Best Sports Bar in North America today by ESPN mobile. To win, the New CBD location of the Baton Rouge-based business bested finalists Taco Mac in Atlanta, Buffalo Blues in Pittsburgh, Hickory Tavern in Charlotte and Pluckers Wing Bar in Austin.
Founded in 1997 in Baton Rouge, Walk-On's is owned by a pair of LSU basketball...walk-ons. The New Orleans location opened in 2011 in the old Smith and Wollensky building. The spot boasts 50 televisions, easily accomodating big crowds for Saints, Hornets and LSU games.
The New Orleans location at 1009 Poydras gives LSU fans a little piece of the Red Stick every time they enjoy a game and a burger. Walk Ons New Orleans Manager Daniel Cain says the number one spot was a surprise at first. "Our establishment only has four in the nation. We beat out places like Taco Mac in Atlanta that have 28 locations," says Cain.
Despite the initial surprise, Cain says Walk Ons beat out the competition because of its unique game day atmosphere.
"Everyday when you come in, not just game days. It's the time away from work, it's the pleasure you get from being here and watching your favorite sports events," says Cain. |
