Perhaps it's because of the wide neutral grounds, or perhaps it's because a certain Delta bluesman taught us long ago about what happens at the crossroads. Either way, there's not too many opportunities to make a left turn around here. Perhaps unexpectedly, the dearth of advance greens might not be completely random. Designing streets sans Louies actually helps save on fuel, Smithsonian Magazine's Surprising Science blog reports. The article points out that the trend has never caught on nationally, "since it seems to be a big inconvenience." They've obviously been on Canal St. trying to cross the streetcar tracks into the French Quarter recently.
