Tulane Tweaks Stadium Plans

Tulane is willing to lower its west wall to appease Uptown residents outside the Green Wave's proposed new fortress. In a handful of public forums held over the summer, Tulane officials heard plenty of their neighbors' complaints about plans to build a new on-campus stadium. But this time, Scott Cowen and co. had a plan. Officials announced design tweaks to the stadium that were aimed at addressing the concerns of vocal residents who say the new stadium will increase neighborhood nuisances.

The biggest change comes on the stadium's western wall, which faces Audubon Blvd. According to new plans, that wall was lowered from 48 ft. to 38 ft. Officials said that brings it in line with the Reilly Student Recreation Center, which sits on the same borderland with the neighborhood.

Officials also said they would move the press box away from homes, from the end zone to the center of the field.

Tulane officials are also completing negotiations on an operating agreement for the new stadium with the city. They expect to have something signed within the next 2-3 weeks.
