Transit Shuts Down Ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac Planes, trains and automobiles are shutting down around New Orleans as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches the Gulf Coast on track for a late Tuesday landfall. Louis Armstrong International Airport will be shut down at the end of the day Monday, and has no flights scheduled Tuesday. Amtrak also suspended service to New Orleans, stopping trains until Thursday. Getting around New Orleans will also be tougher, as the Regional Transit Authority halted streetcar service today at 2 p.m. Buses will stop running once winds increase to 35 mph. Boats are also feeling the storm's impact, as ferry service across the Mississippi River was halted today. |
