Today's Mardi Gras Parades: 2.17.12 photo via Le Krewe d'Etat Last night, we shopped til we dropped with the Muses, but don't take off your shoes just yet! Tonight, we continue to a-krewe Carnival mileage with Hermes, Le Krewe d'Etat and Morpheus. Click through for details:
UPTOWN Mystic Krewe of Hermes (6:00 PM): The longest-rolling night parade in NOLA, Hermes was founded in 1937. At the time, the final countdown to Mardi Gras was not the 7-day epoch that it is now. Hermes' ambitions to roll Friday night were in fact revolutionary at the time. In addition to history, this krewe is also shrouded in mystery. The membership remains secret, and the theme is held closely to the chest until parade time. Route info here.
Le Krewe d'Etat (6:30 PM): Instead of a king, this satirical krewe installs a dictator to reign over St. Charles. This parade brings something sharper than a lampoon to the proceedings, as even other Mardi Gras krewes have been sent up by their biting floats. Further delighting the crowds, the krewe's relatively recent origin (1996) ensures that they remain on the cutting edge of throw fashion Route info here.
Krewe of Morpheus (7:00 PM): Known primarily for their artistry, this parade focuses on making Mardi Gras dreams come true. With more than 500 members, this krewe has quickly grown both in size and reputation among the Carnival faithful. The parade takes the traditional St. Charles Ave. route.  ’)
