Today's Events 8.17.12

Today in Louisiana history, Hurricane Camille hit the mouth of the Mississippi before she wreaked havoc on New Orleans on August 17, 1969. Tonight, get together with friends for the Saints’ preseason game, or get artsy in City Park with NOMA for their weekly after hours event. At 9:30, check out local celebrity Mia Borders at Antoine’s Hermes Bar.

Mia Borders (Antoine’s at the Hermes Bar, 9:30pm)

The local artist brings her bluesy, soulful, funky sound to St. Louis St. tonight.

Saints vs. Jaguars (Superdome, 8pm)

New Orleans’ first preseason meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars is tonight. This will be the first time the teams have met since their meeting in October of 2011, when the Saints won 23-10.

Where Y’Art?! (NOMA, 5pm)

Tonight, NOMA’s Where Y’Art brings their usual art making, music, and edible delights to City Park. Rex Gregory will be playing tonight, for the museum’s closing weekend of What is a Photograph. Art you can eat will be provided by beverage specialist Thomas Register, teaching guests how to enhance foods with fresh fruits and veggies. They’re screening Michael Frierson and Michael Murphy’s Clarence John Laughlin: An Artist with a Camera.
