Today's Events 8.16.12Today in Louisiana music history, Louis Armstrong recorded the classic single, “What a Wonderful World,” in New York in 1967. Tonight in the Big Easy, check out weekly gigs from Kermit Ruffins at Vaughn’s and the Stooges Brass Band on St. Claude at the Hi-Ho. Tonight at the Ogden, the art is staying on display a little longer. They’ll have music from Jimmy Robinson and Michael Skinkus, plus food from Miss Linda’s Soul Food Catering.
Crescent City Farmer’s Market (Mid-City, 3-7pm)
Every Thursday, the Farmer's Market comes to Orleans Avenue bringing fresh produce, seafood, and more to Mid-City residents. Come make groceries after work, or stop by for a snack and support local chefs and growers.
Kermit Ruffins and the Barbeque Swingers (Vaughn’s, 7pm)
Come out to the Bywater to see Kermit’s weekly gig. They’ll be serving free red beans and rice in the back, so come hungry.
Stooges Brass Band (Hi-Ho Lounge, 10pm)
A little later on in the night, the Stooges are bringing their bold sound to St. Claude at the Hi-Ho. Save up some energy to move yourself to the brass beat.
Ogden After Hours, (Ogden Museum, 6pm)
Every Thursday, the Ogden keeps its doors open a little later for art, music, food, and drink. Tonight, guitar guru Jimmy Robinson is teaming up with percussionist Michael Skinkus, there’s a $5 raffle to win an “art-ful object,” and Miss Linda’s Soul Food Catering will be there to fill your bellies. Bring the kids for the “O Fun: Kid’s Art Activity Table.” Admission is $10 and free for members. |
