Today's Events: 10.9.11

Today, the Saints will beat the Panthers, Marsh Fest will swamp the Howlin’ Wolf, Gretna Fest will wrap. But long ago and far away, Supernova 1604 was observed in the Milky Way (1604), Yale University was chartered (1701), Che Guevara was executed for his attempt to incite a Bolivian Revolution (1967), France abolished Capital Punishment (1981), and President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (2009); it’s Charles Walgreen’s birthday (1873), Oskar Schindler’s death (1974) and World Post Day. Now, back to the present:

12:00PM: Saints v. Panthers- 4:1 (EverBank Field)

3:30PM: Marsh Fest- How often do you get an opportunity to ‘show your fish love’? Head to Warehouse Disctrict for a Silent auction and the music of the Lost Bayou Ramblers, Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience, Brint Anderson, Shamaar Allen & The Underdawgs, and Marc Stone with Amanda Walker (Howlin’ Wolf)

4:00PM: Gretna Fest- The Gretna Economic Development Association presents, along with over 100 sponsors, a festival to support the businesses and organizations in the city of Gretna, LA. $40 gets you an entire weekend of Music, Food (from Cajun Crawfish pasta to Vietnamese Spring Rolls), a German Beer Garden, an Italian Village, crafts, and carnival rides galore. Closing night sees Hunter Hayes, Tracy Lawrence, Sara Evans, Dash Rip Rock, Molly Hatchet, The Frankie Ford Show, Bobby Rush, George Porter, and more (Downtown Gretna)

7:00PM: A Midsummer Night’s Dream- Back by popular demand! After a three-night stint in May (and a Fitzmorris review) The NOLA Project returns to City Park for two more midsummer nights. Come enjoy a cheese plate, sip some wine, and enjoy some postmodern Shakespeare in the park  (NOMA)

*And your weekly Sunday solids: Treme (all over, especially the Lost Love Lounge), Gal Holiday at BMC, Hot 8 at Howlin’ Wolf, and the Joe Krown Trio featuring Russell Batiste & Walter “Wolfman” Washington at Maple Leaf Bar.
