Today, Kora Konnection will keep the Ogden open late, Vicente Archer will play The Rat, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream makes a return loop around NOMA’s Sculpture Garden. Earlier in time, the American Library Association was founded (1876), Thomas Edison showed his first motion picture (1889), the Moulin Rouge cabaret opened in Paris (1889), Egypt and Syria attacked Israel, sparking the Yom Kippur War (1973). It's Swiss architect Le Corbusier’s birthday (1887), Louisiana Governor Pierre Derbigny’s death (1829), and German-American Day. Have your schnitzel and eat it too, with these:

6:00PM: Ogden After Hours- The Thursday series continues on Camp Street with museum doors remaining ajar for the tunes of Kora Konnection. Morikeba Kouyate and Thierno Dioubate lead the group’s West African/Jazz blend with the forces of Kora and Djembe, while Tim Green and Vince Mitchell toot sax and bass, respectively. Come feel the fusion tonight from 6-8pm (Ogden Museum of Southern Art)

7:00PM: Vicente Archer- Don’t be surprised, but there’s another free live concert series in town, known as Jazz at the Rat, and it’s Tulane’s Der Rathskeller that hosts this Thursday weekly. Tonight, modern jazz bassists Vicente Archer is brought by the Lagniappe Series of the NewComb-Tulane College for a semi-rare solo show. Archer is a longtime meber of the Robert Glasper Trio, and plays in collaboration with top musicians, from jazz greats (Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard) to hip hop legends (Mos Def, Q-Tip); catch him tonight on his own (The Rat)

7:00PM: A Midsummer Night’s Dream- Back by popular demand! After a three-night stint in May (and a Fitzmorris review) The NOLA Project returns to City Park for two more midsummer nights. Come enjoy a cheese plate, sip some wine, and enjoy some postmodern Shakespeare in the park (NOMA Sculpture Garden)

*And the weekly Thursday threshold: Stooges at Hi-Ho, Soul Rebels at Les Bon Temps, Kermit at Vaughns, and Alex McMurray at Saturn Bar.
