Today's Events: 10.27.11

Today, NOLA Brewing goes to the cans, novelist Mark Yakich gives a first person presentation at Antenna Gallery and Republic hosts Bounce legends night. But before all that, way back in 1768, a little uprising was forming among the frenchmen of New Orleans. They didn't like the Spanish governor, Ulloa, and they intended to show him. Their chosen method? Shoving spikes down the cannons that protected the Crescent City. Nowadays we spike things a little differently. Here's some examples:

7:00 PM Mark Yakich Reads - Longtime Loyola University prof Mark Yakich usually keeps his writing contained to poetry. But, with, A Meaning for Wife, he breaks out in full-fledged novel form, telling the story in the mysterious second person voice and mining his own autobiography for hillarious anecdotes and details along the way. Tonight, Room 220's Live Prose series presents Yakich live and in person in the Marigny. And, there will be beer.  (Antenna Gallery)

8:00 PM NOLA Brewing Can Release Party - The Crescent City's true microbrew is going out of the taps and into the streets. Tonight, just in time for Halloween, the Tchoupitoulas brewers release NOLA Blonde Ale in perfecntly cylindrical, aluminum form. A $15 cover gets access to one free can of beer, a special edition NOLA Brewing coozie and music by Big Sam's Funky Nation, Flow Tribe and Colin Lake. (Tip's)

10:00 PM Bounce X - Legends Night - Republic's running Bounce series digs back into the archives (or, just looks around) to find some of the hardest twerking Bounce practitioners in history. DJ Jubilee, Ricky B, 10th Ward Buck, Katey Red and others headline this very special night (Republic)

*And the weekly Thursday threshold: Stooges at Hi-Ho, Soul Rebels at Les Bon Temps, Kermit at Vaughns, and Alex McMurray at Saturn Bar.
