Today in NOLA 9.5.17

This Tuesday, grab a pipin’ hot piece of pizza pie for a great cause, enjoy the musical stylings of Jeff Taylor at Gasa Gasa, or pay tribute to the cult works of David Lynch and Tobe Hooper at film screenings around town. On this day in 1983, the Pontchartrain Beach officially closed. Now, more to do today.

Raise Some Dough for ARNO (Blaze Pizza, 5PM)

There may be a few things to consider before attending this event: Do you like pizza? Do you like dogs? Do you like helping dogs while eating pizza? If you answered yes to the above then this is the event for you. Raise some dough while you eat some dough and maybe even find your new best friend. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Animal Rescue New Orleans.

David Lynch Tribute (Zeitgeist, 7PM)

Exposure Cinema and Zeitgeist have teamed up to screen a night of David Lynch inspired short films. Curator Adam Sekuler focused the evening's works on films remniscent of the extra-dimensional Black Lodge, as seen prominently in Twin Peaks, which just wrapped its revival run on Sunday night. The lineup includes five short films that range from a sci-fi soap opera to a scarily repetitive love story.

Jeff Taylor (Gasa Gasa, 9PM)

New York City based musician Jeff Taylor takes the stage at Gasa Gasa tonight with support from NOLA's own trumpet player Eric "Benny" Bloom. Taylor will perform his first ever show in New Orleans this evening, playing a range of his old tunes and new sounds off of his summer collaborative release Willow, Texas

Texas Chainshaw Massacre (Prytania Theatre, 10PM)

Following the death of horror filmmaker Tobe Hooper on August 26, 2017, the Prytania Theatre is paying tribute to the director with a two-night screening of his seminal film Texas Chainsaw Massacre. With the 1974 movie about a family of rural Texan cannibals, Hooper pioneered an entire genre of horror filmmaking that explored gore and grit that the world had never seen before.
