Today In NOLA 9.26.15

There’s no shortage of things to do this Saturday in New Orleans. Tipitina’s teamed up with Galactic to produce The Landing Festival, which kicks off today. It’s Smithsonian Museum Day Live with free entrance to multiple museums. Celebrity Lea Michelle will sign her book, You First, at Garden District Book Shop, and NOLA on Tap will bring beer to the City Park Festival Grounds. On this day in 1997, Louisiana guitarist James Burton made it on to Hollywood’s Rock Wall. Now, more to do this Saturday. 


The Landing Festival (South Shore Harbor, 11a.m.)


Today marks the first day of Tipitina’s and Galactic’s 1st Annual The Landing Festival. Gates open this morning at 11a.m. at South Shore Harbor. Artists that will play today include Galactic, Cake, The Soul Rebels, Eagles of Death, Glen David Andrews and Maggie Koerner. Tomorrow, the fest will be taken over by Grace Potter, Dr. Dog, Trampled By Turtles, Lil Dicky, Sexual Thunder and Madd Wikkid, amongst others. There will also be food trucks including Food Drunk, Frencheeze, Crepes A La Carte and Diva Dog.


Smithsonian Museum Day Live (Multiple Locations, All Day)


If you’re interested in checking out Nola museums, then today is an exciting day! As a part of Smithsonian Museum Day Live, a nation-wide event, many museums will be opening their doors to the city for free. Participating museums in New Orleans include The National WWII Museum, Longue Vue House and Gardens, New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, SoFAB, Ogden and more. Get your free ticket online then hit up the museums for free!


You First (Garden District Book Shop, 6p.m.)


Lea Michele, Broadway, Glee and Scream Queens star, will discuss her new book, You First: Journal Your Way to Your Best Life, today at Garden District Book Shop. In this book, Michele, who also authored the book Brunette Ambition, discusses how to journal and how journaling can change your life.


NOLA on Tap (City Park Festival Grounds, 12p.m.)


Beer fanatics, get ready! Today is NOLA on Tap, the largest free admission beer festival in the Southeast. There will be over 400 beers to sample, starting at one $1. The LASPCA will be there with animals for adoption, and music will be provided by bands including Honey Island Swamp Band, Cardinal Sons and Colin Lake.
