Ahhhh! The New Orleans Horror Film Festival opens at Indywood tonight. Big Freedia, Partners N Crime, and 5th Ward Weebie bounce into Tip’s. Russell Batiste and Friends perform at Jazz in the Park, and clarinetist Tim Laughlin plays at the Ogden. Plus, lit mag The New Orleans Review launches its fall double issue. Details tonight:

 

Jazz in the Park (Armstrong Park, 4-8p.m.)

This week’s jam in Armstrong Park features Russell Batiste and Friends, the Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians, and Mike Soulman Baptiste. The Edna Karr High School Marching Band will perform on the kids’ stage. The outdoor Marketplace at Armstrong Park opens at 3p.m., and over three dozen food and craft vendors will be available to provide concertgoers with snacks and gifts. Free admission.

 

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum, 6-8p.m.)

This week, the Ogden’s evening soiree features New Orleans clarinetist Tim Laughlin. Venerable literature publication The New Orleans Review will celebrate its fall double issue with a launch party and signing. Plus, an activity table to occupy kids and Miss Linda’s Soul Food to cater to your dinnertime cravings. Admission $10.

 

A Lie of the Mind (Midcity Theatre, 7:30p.m.)

Sam Shepard’s landmark drama, about an episode of domestic violence that propels two entwined families through questions of identity, mutual anguish, and intimate jealousies. Joseph Furnari directs. Tickets $20.

 

New Orleans Horror Film Festival (Indywood, 9p.m.)

Hold onto your seat: horror comes to Indywood tonight at the opening night of the New Orleans Horror Film Festival. At 7p.m. tonight, festival organizers screen a selection of the best clips from horror film fests past. After the show, the opening night party and pub crawl gets underway at 9.

 

Big Freedia, Partners N Crime, 5th Ward Weebie (Tipitina’s, 10p.m.)

Q93’s DJ Ro has a birthday this week, and the local radio personality is celebrating in style at Tipitina’s tonight. Queen Diva Big Freedia headlines this bounce show, with support from classic New Orleans rappers Partners N Crime (Kango Slimm and Misdemeanor) and 5th Ward Weebie. Tickets $25.
