New Orleans has a new home for college football: Tulane celebrates the official opening of Yulman Stadium today. The team play their first game in their new home this Saturday against Georgia Tech. Get a taste of the history of New Orleans’ most venerable restaurants at the Louisiana State Museum, tonight and Thursday only. And it’s time to space out: Hawkwind’s Nik Turner saxes it up at Siberia tonight. Click through for more events and free punk rock tonight:


Yulman Stadium Dedication (Tulane Yulman Stadium, 3-5p.m.)

Tulane University celebrates its new stadium with ribbon-cutting ceremonies and a formal dedication this afternoon. Afterward, fans enjoy a reception and stadium tours, or head over to the quad and join students for a pep rally featuring the football team, marching band, and fireworks. Free food and non-alcoholic beverages, with beer and wine available for purchase.


Hidden Treasures: Restaurant Edition (Old U.S. Mint, 6 & 7p.m.)

The Louisiana State Museum celebrates its new exhibit at the Old U.S. Mint, featuring artifacts and ephemera from homes of classic New Orleans cuisine like Antoine’s and Galatoire’s. By the time this tour is over, you just might want to go out to dinner. Two nightly tours; reservations recommended, as tour groups are limited to 20 people. Tickets $20.


Progression Music Series (Gasa Gasa, 9p.m.)

This eclectic weekly music series at funky Freret Street venue Gasa Gasa features contemporary musicians both local and national, performing in any and all genres. The lineup this week includes Barry's Pocket and the Christian Bradford Band. Suggested admission $5.


Nik Turner's Hawkwind, Witch Mountain, Hedersleben, Mountain of Wizard (Siberia, 9p.m.)

Nik Turner, best known as the saxophonist of prolific ‘70s progressive band Hawkwind, is 74 years old and still going strong. He leads the band’s current lineup to Siberia tonight. He’s on tour with Witch Mountain of Portland, OR and Hedersleben of Hedersleben, Germany. NOLA locals Mountain of Wizard open the show at 9:30, with Nik Turner at midnight. Tickets $12.


Punk Night (Dragon’s Den, 10p.m.)

Tuesday nights are all Punk Night upstairs in the Dragon’s Den, at the foot of Frenchmen Street. Rock out tonight with The Boy Sprouts, The Noise Complaints, Mystery Girl, and Interior Decorating. No cover.
