Today in NOLA 9.13.17

Happy hump day, everyone! To get you through the mid-week blues, take in a movie at Gasa Gasa or share your poetry at the Rubber Library. Antenna Gallery hosts a live letter reading, while the Church of Yoga will stage New Orleans’s only live soap opera. On this day in 2009, Drew Brees set the record for passing six touchdowns in one game. That record was previously set by Billy Kilmer in 1969. Now, more this Wednesday.

Letters Read: Regrets (Antenna Gallery, 6:30PM)

Chris Kaminstein will host a live event that explores the way that humans communicate and record their lives with the written word. A dozen New Orleanians will read reading of personal correspondences themed around regrets, with guitar accompaniment by Rob Hudak.

Debauchery (Church of Yoga, 7:30PM)

Southern Rep produces New Orleans’s only live, ongoing soap opera. Now at its new home at the Church of Yoga, tonight's episode Dior has a surprise to share with the dysfunctional Debauchery family. Cocktails will be had, so join in on the fun.

Rubber Flower Poetry Hour  (Rubber LIbrary & Flower Bodega, 7:30PM)

This monthly open mic returns to the Bywater multi-purse bodega. Readers are encouraged to share their own prose or poetry, though the team does allow passages from favorite authors to be shared as well. There will also be space to set up shop if you have any published literature or chap books to sell. Tea, coffee, and wine will be available for purchase, but attendees are welcome to BYOB.

The Holy Mountain (Gasa Gasa, 9PM)

Sop by this Freret venue for a screening of Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain. The 1973 Mexican fantasy film is a surrealist journey through western esotericism. It follows a Christ-like figure led to a mountain by a powerful alchemist, played by Jodorowsky himself.
