Today in NOLA 8.22.17

This Tuesday is a fine day to experience the sounds of the city. Galactic's Stanton Moore will perform two shows with his namesake trio at his weekly gig on Frenchmen. Just slightly up the street Treme Brass Band and Smoking Time Jazz Club will perform. For the late night crowd, catch Rebirth in their regular gig at Maple Leaf. On this day in 1812, former Governor W.C.C. Claiborne became the highest paid governor in the United States, with a salary of $7500 a year. Now, more to do this Tuesday.

Stanton Moore Trio (Snug Harbor, 8/10PM)

Tonight, Stanton Moore, the drummer from Galactic and one of the band’s founders, will jam with his side project the Stanton Moore Trio at Snug Harbor. Moore has collaborated with artists including Joss Stone, George Porter Jr., the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas and more. Tonight, he will be joined by David Torkanowsky and James Singleton to play some funk and modern jazz. Expect to hear some tunes off of his new album dedicated to Allen Toussaint With You in Mind, released in late July.

Treme Brass Band (d.b.a, 9PM)

Check out the New Orleans tradition, the Treme Brass Band, tonight at d.b.a.. The band, which continues to make music after the loss of the iconic Uncle Lionel Batiste in 2012, has played for audiences all around the world. They’ve been featured in the HBO show “Treme” as well as Spike Lee’s documentary “When The Levees Broke.’

Rebirth Brass Band (Maple Leaf, 10PM)

Come out to Oak for not one, but two sets from the double Grammy-winning brass band. Led by Derrick Tabb and Tuba Phil, the group has played worldwide, but there is no better place to see them than here, at home.

Smoking Time Jazz Club (The Spotted Cat, 10PM)

This large local band plays trad jazz from the 20's and 30's. The scene is a mix of old-school jazz fans and hipster swing dancers. The band visits Frenchmen every other Tuesday.
