Today in NOLA: 8.14.14

Give the weekend a tasteful early welcome with live music in City Park and at the Ogden Museum this evening. Bug returns to Allways Lounge for its second weekend. Plus, two options for fans of independent country music tonight. Twenty years ago today, the Neville Brothers performed at the final day of Woodstock '94, which itself commemorated the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival in 1969. More events and details tonight:

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 6-8p.m.)

This week, the Ogden Museum’s evening music series features jazz singer-songwriter Erica Falls. Plus, an activity table to occupy kids and Miss Linda’s Soul Food to cater to your dinnertime cravings. Admission $10.

Thursdays at Twilight (City Park Botanical Garden, 6p.m.)

Relax in the scenic environs of the Botanical Garden at City Park, this evening featuring music by singer and pianist Phil Melancon. Tickets $10.

Bug (Allways Lounge, 8p.m.)

Agnes is a cocktail waitress with little in her life—until she meets Peter, a Gulf War vet with paranoid tendencies, and gradually falls under his spell. This month, Allways Lounge hosts a staging of Bug, a darkly comedic play written by actor and playwright Tracy Letts.

Holy Ghost Electric Show, Mississippi Shakedown (Gasa Gasa, 9p.m.)

Holy Ghost Electric Show are a young band from Corinth, Mississippi who play all-American country rock’n’roll with so much energy that it sounds live even on record. Mississippi Shakedown, despite their name, are locals and not from Mississippi at all. Tickets $8.

Matt Woods, Caleb Caudle (the BEATnik, 8p.m.)

“Some folks call what I do Outlaw Country or Americana, but I have a hard time putting a label on things like that,” says Knoxville-based songwriter Matt Woods. He performs tonight along with Caleb Caudle, a regular to the BEATnik stage. Tickets $10.
