Today in NOLA 8.10.17

Today, the Ogden stays open late while Kermit Ruffins plays early in the Seventh Ward. A nine-month pregnant woman takes the stage at the Allways for a one woman comedic show. Bar Redux opens its patio for a night of nunsploitation. On this day in 1936, Louisiana clocked its highest-ever temperature: 114 degrees in Plain Dealing. It could be worse! Now, more to do this Thursday.

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum, 6PM)

This week, the Ogden Museum’s evening music series features The Asylum Chorus, a band featuring eight singers and full backing band to create mesmerizing harmonies. Plus, an arts activity section to occupy kids and a cash bar to occupy their parents.

Kermit Ruffins (Bullet’s, 6PM)

All aboard! NOLA current heir to the Armstrong persona is playing his weekly gig in the Seventh Ward, where it all began. The time has gotten a little earlier, but the music remains the same. Expect a healthy dose of standards, some NOLA favorites, and a lot of personality. We partyin’.

The Takeover (The Allways Theatre, 8PM)

In what could be considered one of the more extreme instances of method acting, a nine-month pregnant woman will take the stage tonight playing, yes, a nine-month pregnant woman. Stylist B wrote and stars in this new production at the Allways Theatre, described as an "off-the-wall, no-holds-barred" comedic experience. Opening night of a three-night engagement.

Bad Taste (Bar Redux, 9PM)

Bad Taste returns to Bar Redux for another installment of exploitation, camp, and B-movies. Tonight is dedicated to the 1970s international trend of nunsploitation cinema, a genre of films that criticize the Catholic Church to campy extremes. Tonight, two Mexican films from the mid-1970s will be screened on Bar Redux's patio. Satanico Pandemonium: La Sexorcista follows a young nun who is tempted to join the devil through sexual desires. The second film Alucarda also flirts with Satan, as a girl newly arrived to a convent begins to feel a sinister presence with her.
