Today in NOLA 6.5.17

Today, witness five artists compete for the chance to win five grand, cure your Monday blues with Tasche or the Porter Trio, or step outside of your cinematic horizons at Café Istanbul. On this day in 1991, Harry Connick Jr’s album “20” which was recorded in his 20th year, was certified as a Gold Record.

Pitch Night New Orleans (Contemporary Arts Center, 7PM)

One of the biggest art events in New Orleans, Pitch Night is quite simple in its premise. Five artists are given five minutes each to pitch their proposal, using five slides each, for a grand price of $5,000 to create an ambitious art exhibit at ArtPrize.

Monday Nights with Tasche (Mags 940, 8PM)

Every Monday, New Orleans’ beloved Tasche de la Rocha will be bringing some great tunes to the iconic Elysian Fields watering hole. Old school favorites and debuts are expected on the lineup. Sometimes solo, sometimes with guests, come see what happens!

Belle Epoque (Cafe Istanbul, 7PM)

Come to Cafe Istanbul in the Healing Center to discover the magic of the Oscar-winning film starring Penelope Cruz in one of her earliest roles. Belle Epoque (in English: The Age of Beauty) takes place in 1931 politically-divided Spain, but is full of fun nonetheless.

The Porter Trio (Maple Leaf, 10PM)

They may not always know who’s going to join them on stage, but with these three talented musicians at the helm, you know it’s going to be good. They play everything from Blues, to Soul, to Rock and Rock, as well as some of George Porter Jr.’s own music, but they always do it with style. Come enjoy the sweet combination that is George Porter Jr., Michael Lemmler, and Terrence Houston at Maple Leaf Bar.
