Defender Picks

Today in NOLA: 4.09.15

French Quarter Fest starts today. Later in the evening, Tricia Boutte plays after hours at the Ogden and there is a social bike ride. If you’re going to stay in and make groceries, be sure to stop by the farmers’ market. On this day in 1864, the Battle of Pleasant Hill led to a Union victory in Louisiana. Now, more to do this Thursday.

French Quarter Fest (French Quarter, All Day)

The nation’s largest free festival is back for the 28th year. Today is “Local’s Lagniappe Day” featuring performances by Allen Toussaint, NOJO, and Doug Kershaw & Steve Riley. Plus, there are over 60 food and drink vendors at seven spots. If that’s not enough for you, check out the Gala at Antoine’s to benefit the Roots of Music.

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 6-8p.m.)

This week, the Ogden Museum’s evening music series features Tricia Boutte and Paul Longstreth. Sister Teedy Boutte is the scion of music royalty and her vocals styles include jazz, standards, R&B, pop, soul, gospel and Caribbean music. Plus, an activity table to occupy kids and Miss Linda (the Yakamei Lady) to cater to your dinnertime cravings. Admission $10.

Happy Thursday Ride (Finn McCool’s, 7p.m.)

This week is the Caped Crusader Ride. Dozens of costumed cyclists will take to the streets for the weekly pedal and party. Today, the streets of Mid City will provide the backdrop for the peloton. The ride will begin around 7:45p.m. and there will be a tracker running for those who are late or want to catch up mid-way. Organizers remind participant to ask for the drink specials.

Crescent City Farmers Market (3700 Orleans Avenue at the Bayou, 3 p.m. - 7p.m.)

Veggies, cheese, seedlings, and more come to Mid-City this afternoon at the Thursday Crescent City Farmers Market in the parking lot of the American Can Company.
