Today in NOLA: 3.18.15

It's finally time for Wednsday at the Square. Tonight, noise pop band from Melboune performs at Gasa Gasa. Bay Area rock comes to town in the form of Cool Ghouls to play at late night bar, the Saint. Maple Leaf hosts a tribute to Meters' album "Look-Ka Py Py." On this day in 1687, LaSalle was assassinated by his own men. Now, more details on this Wednesday's events.

Wednesday at the Square (Lafayette Square, 5p.m.)

Bonerama and Lousiana Spice play at the second scheduled Wednesday at Lafayette Square. The first in the series was cancelled due to rain, so technically this show is the kick off event, and the weather looks perfect. Stop by and enjoy the free jams, food from local vendors and Louisiana beer.

Cool Ghouls (The Saint, 10p.m.)

Raw Power Wednesday is back at the Saint. Bay Area rock band Cool Ghouls are the special guests of the night, as well as Summer Before. Later in the evening, Ben Bipolaroid and Speed After will keep the vinyl flowing for the Saints Wednesday Vinyl Rock Party.

Twerps  (Gasa Gasa, 8:30p.m.)

Drawing similarities to Thee Oh Sees, Black Lips, Yo La Tengo and Deerhunter, Melbourne's four piece band has become a contender in the international lo-fi scene. Their debut EP, released in late 2009, gained them the label, "best new band in Australia" by UK magazine Uncut. Also slated to play as Gasa tonight are bands Ultimate Painting, Marine and Small Reactions. Tickets are $10.

Tribute to Meters' "Look-Ka Py Py" (Maple Leaf, 10p.m.)

Joe Ashlar, Chris Alford, Eric Vogel and Joe Gelini are geared to perform a tribute to the Meter's album "Look-Ka Py Py." They'll be playing the album in its entirety. This marks the second album by the locally born funk band and was listed by Rolling Stones Magazine as #216 of the 500 Best Albums of all time.
