Today in NOLA 3.15.17

This Wednesday is for the ladies. Rock legends Stevie Nicks and Chrissie Hynde are blowing up the arena, while Voodoo Priestess Kalindah Laveaux will play the Mint. Soul Queen of New Orleans Irma Thomas will be in Lafayette Square for a free evening show. On this day in 1729, a ceremony was held for Sister Stanislas Hachard at the Ursuline Convent to make her the first woman to become a Catholic nun in the United States. Now, more to do today.

Kalindah Laveaux (The Old U.S. Mint, 2PM)

Voodoo Priestess Kalindah Laveaux honors her ancestral lineage and spiritual practices through her music. Expect a mix of traditional jazz standards, world spirituals and call-response songs at this show at the classic Mint.

Irma Thomas (Lafayette Square, 5PM)

Iconic artist and "Soul Queen of New Orleans” Irma Thomas will return to the stage of Wednesday at the Square as part of her 50th anniversary celebration. Expect a trip down memory lane from Miss Thomas, who will perform a mix of 60s and contemporary blues tunes. Her Wednesday at the Square show will see her perform with the Jamal Batiste Band.

Stevie Nicks (Smoothie King Center, 7PM)

The original gold dust woman is bringing her 24 Karat Gold Tour to the arena tonight. Expect a mix of songs from Nicks’s career as Fleetwood Mac frontwoman as well as from her decades-long solo career. Chrissie Hynde’s rock outfit The Pretenders will open.

Movie Screening: The Royal Tenebaums (Catahoula Hotel, 7PM)

Enjoy a screening under the stars and visit the rooftop of the Catahoula Hotel for a free showing of Wes Anderson’s cult classic. Narrated by Alec Baldwin, The Royal Tenenbaums is the story of three child prodigies (Luke Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller) all grown up. Be sure to keep an eye out for $3 drink tickets on the event’s posters in coffee shops all over the city.
