Today in NOLA: 2.09.16

Mardi Gras Day is finally here. After the major parades Rex and Zulu roll, be on the lookout for some micro krewes marching behind them. Lyons Carnival Club follows Zulu making stops at bars and waking up Uptown beforehand. Mondo Kayo dances down the route ending on Frenchmen for an all day dance party. Fat Tueesday has not fallen on February 9th in over 75 years. Now more info on Fat Tuesday.

Zulu (Uptown, 8a.m.)

The krewe that throws Coconuts rolls uptown and ends at Orleans and Broad.

Rex (Uptown, 10a.m.)

The King of Carnival rolls at 10 a.m. The truck parades of Elks and Krewe of Crescent City close out the day of parades.

Lyons Carnival Club (Uptown, 7 a.m.)

The krewe makes an impressive ten stops along the route, finally ending at Molly’s at the Market (1107 Decatur) for their Mardi Gras Day celebration. These loveable jesters will entertain you and if you entertain them, you might get a rose.

Mondo Kayo (Uptown, 7:45 a.m.)

A nice break from the usual NOLA-centric Krewes, Mondo Kayo blends their devotion to New Orleans with a strong focus on Caribbean and African cultures. They dance down the route, finally ending at Frenchmen for an all-day dance party.

Mardi Gras with Rebirth Brass Band (Maple Leaf, 10p.m.)

Right off the Uptown hub, close out Fat Tuesday with some Mardi Gras music from the double Grammy-winning brass band. Led by Derrick Tabb and Tuba Phil, the group has played worldwide, but there is no better place to see them than here, at home.

2 Chainz + Migos (Saenger, 8p.m.)

Mardi Gras Madness! Def Jam's rapper Tauheed Epps of “Duffle Bag Boy” and “Based on a T.R.U. Story” fame is taking the city's premier stage. Plus, felllow Georgians, hip hop trio Migos (Quavo, Takeoff and Offbeat) will join him on the stage.
