Today in NOLA: 2.07.16

This Bacchus Sunday, Trombone Shorty is throwing a party at Tip's, Dumpstaphunk is at the Wolf, the Soul Rebels are back Le Bon Temps, and the Stooges are jamming on Frenchmen. On this day in 1805, a much larger Louisiana became an “organized” territory, with the capital at St. Louis, by order of Congress. Now, more to do this Bacchus Sunday.

Uptown Parades (All Day)

Other than Thoth, all of today’s krewes are riding along the traditional Uptown route. The day begins at 11 a.m. with the Krewe of Okeanos, then the Krewe of Mid-City. Thoth rolls at noon, down their special route that makes sure to pass Children’s Hospital. The night ends with one of New Orleans’ biggest super krewes.

Trombone Shorty's Bacchus Bash (Tipitina’s, 10 p.m.)

It’s Troy Andrews’ seventh year performing, and he has invited 5th Ward Weebie and the Hot 8 to join him. The premiere trumpet player has risen to national fame in recent years, with a Grammy win, as well as a Grammy performance a few weeks ago. Tickets are $40, but they are sold out.

Dumpstaphunk (Howlin’ Wolf, 10 p.m.)

Following the parades, Ivan Neville’s funky outfit is tearing up the Warehouse District. Dumpstaphunk made their debut at the 2003 Jazz Fest, and their latest release is 2013’s Dirty Word.

The Soul Rebels (Le Bon Temps, 7p.m.)

Coming up out of the 6th Ward, the Soul Rebels expanded the boundaries of modern-day brass band music's mix of funk, soul, jazz and hip-hop. Nowadays, they're one of the vanguards of the genre, and are always willing to funk up one of your favorite songs with a cover.

Stooges Brass Band (Blue Nile, 11p.m.)

Head to Frenchmen tonight and get down with one of New Orleans’ moat innovative brass bands. The Stooges mix funk, hip-hop, jazz, and with traditional NOLA brass.
