Today In NOLA 11.30.15

Today in New Orleans, Higher Heights Reggae Band is bringing Caribbean jams to Blue Nile. Glen Davis Andrews will play his normal show, and at the Maison, catch Aurora Nealand & Royal Roses. Big K.R.I.T will play at the House of Blues as a part of his “Kritically Acclaimed Tour.” Today in 1803, the Spanish sold the Louisiana Territory to the French. But now, back to the present.

Higher Heights Reggae Band (Blue Nile, 9p.m.)

If you’re looking for a classic New Orleans evening, check out the Higher Heights Reggae Band at Blue Nile. Known to have a strong stage presence, the band has toured the country with some of the biggest names in reggae like Yellowman, Wayne Wonder and Buju Banton. They have performed at such festivals as the One Love Festival, Jazz Fest and the Bob Marley Festival Tour.

Glen Davis Andrews (d.b.a., 10p.m.)

“Jesus was born in a manger,” says Tremé-born musician Glen David Andrews. “I was born in a second line.” Andrews’ roots go as deep as anyone’s in his home city, and it’s not for nothing that he’s known as the Tremé Prince. The trombone talent and Jazzfest star brings his signature sound to his regular spot at d.b.a. tonight. Tickets $5.

Aurora Nealand & Royal Roses (Maison, 7p.m.)

After nearly a decade in New Orleans, singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Aurora Nealand is an established and versatile voice in the city’s musical community. Nealand is also a member of Panorama Jazz Band and Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship, but The Royal Roses are her traditional jazz group. Informed by groups like the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the New Orleans Moonshiners, they bring a fresh take to the traditional sound.

Big K.R.I.T (HOB, 8p.m.)

This evening, Mississippi-native and rapper Justin Scott, also known as Big K.R.I.T., will grace the stage at House of Blues. His is traveling now as a part of the Kritically Acclaimed tour.
