At CAC, ETHEL is presenting Documeria. Today is also the birthday of Donna Karan and Mahatma Gandhi. Now, more for your Friday.

Andrea Gibson (Tulane LBC, 9p.m.)

This evening, spoken word artist Andrea Gibson will speak at Tulane. Gibson is an award-winning activist and poet hailing from Colorado. Tonight she will speak about issues facing the LGBTQ community, politics and reform. The event is free and open to the public.

Friday Nights at NOMA (NOMA, 5p.m.)

Take in a little culture before getting housed tonight. NOMA opens its doors after hours on Fridays, allowing visitors a chance to kick off the weekend with some live music and film. This week celebrates the opening of Tim Youd’s 100 Novels Project.

Sleepless in New York (Zeitgeist, 5:45p.m.)

2014 documentary Sleepless in New York will screen tonight at Zeitgesit. Taking its name from famous movie Sleepless in Seattle, this film tells the story of heartbreak, lovesickness, adolescence and importantly, the resilience of love. It is directed and produced by Christian Frei.

ETHEL’s Documeria (Contemporary Arts Center, 7:30p.m.)

Tonight, progressive string quartet, ETHEL, will present Documeria. Documeria is a multimedia presentation that uses music and photos to tell the story of the United States in the 1970s. The Environmental Protection Agency originally commissioned Documeria, and the project produced some 15,000 photographs that documented life across the country.
