Today in New Orleans: 2.1.14

Tonight, the Reese Johanson Collective presents their rock opera, a cabaret theater experience with complimentary Italian dinner. House of Blues is celebrating 20 years, and the Pelicans are playing the Bulls at the New Orleans Arena. On this day in 1929, 38 year-old Ada LeBoeuf was the first woman hanged for murder in Louisiana. LeBoeuf was executed for conspiring to murder her husband. On a lighter note, read on for more to do this Saturday.


Mascherarsi: A Rock Opera (Eiffel Society, 7 p.m.)

The Reese Johanson Collective presents an original love story that blends rock with music from Monteverdi and Mozart, with choreography by Dana Reed. The cabaret experience comes with an Italian dinner. Tickets are $65 for dinner, a cocktail, and the show. The price is $40 for the show and a cocktail only.


House of Blues 20th Anniversary Celebration (House of Blues, 9 p.m.)

Premiere jazz trumpeter Kermit Ruffins is performing tonight with his Barbecue Swingers.  Blues/roots songwriter Colin Lake is also performing, along with special guests. The free show begins at 9p.m. Ages 18 and over are welcome.


Pot and the Palette Cookbook & Art Exhibit (SoFAB Culinary Library, 2p.m.-4p.m.)

The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts presents a book full of creative culinary and artistic talent from local chefs and students. The 100 + recipes include Galatoire’s Chicken Clemenceau, Slap Ya Mama’s Red Beans and Rice, Leah Chase’s Gumbo Z’herbes, and Ruth’s Chris Sweet Potato Casserole. Artwork featured showcases the work of over 50 Louisiana students. The opening reception is free and open to the public.


Pelicans vs. Bulls (N.O. Arena, 7 p.m.)

Coming off of a loss to the Timberwolves following a three-game winning streak, the Pelicans have another chance to get back on track in their game against Chicago. The Bulls are 23-22, and the Pelicans are 19-26.
