Today in New Orleans: 5.30.12

Today, howl with the Wolfman at Wednesday at the Square, get a taste of how the blues sounds in Norway and a new Mid-City bar puts the back porch in the spotlight. On this day in Louisiana history, Admiral David Farragut captured Baton Rogue from Confederate troops (1862) and gospel/R&B singer Joe Gaines was born in New Orleans. Now back to the day's conquests:

Wednesday at the Square (Lafayette Square, 5:00 p.m.) This is the second-to-last installment of the weekly happy hour hijinx in the CBD, so if you haven't made it out this year tonight might be a good time. This week, the lineup features a dual guitar attack of Walter Wolfman Washington and Billy Iuso.

Daniel Eriksen and Stig Sjoestrom (Norwegian Seaman's Church, 1:00 PM) The human development index may be higher, but the blues still translates up in Scandinavia. From the land of the midnight sun, Daniel Eriksen and Stig Sjoestrom bring their guitar work.

Truman Holland & Back Porch Review (DMacs, 8:00 p.m.) One of New Orleans' newest venues brings the back porch out front. Pontchatoula native Truman Holland brings the music, and DMac's brings the food.
