Today in New Orleans: 9.25.12

Today, the New Orleans music scene doesn't care that it's a Tuesday. Chris Robinson Brotherhood returns for another gig at Tip's and the Treme Brass Band marches on at d.b.a.  On this day in history, frequent New Orleans visitor William Faulker was born (1897), and the Superdome reopened for the first time since Federal Flood for the game against the Atlanta Falcons. During the game, Steve Gleason infamously blocked the punt that immortalized him, and gave fans a redemptive rallying point (2006). Now back to today:

Happy Birthday, Mr. Faulkner (Faulkner House Books 6 PM)

Literature buffs, celebrate William Faulkner’s birthday by honoring the recent work of contemporary authors, Dixie Bohemia, John Shelton Reed, Dalt Wonk and his wife Josephine Sacabo and David Armand.  The Faulkner House also marks an important moment in literary history, where Mr. Faulkner wrote his first of many books, Soldiers’ Play.  Free and open to the public, there is no excuse to miss out on this literary event.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood (Tipitina’s 9 PM)

If you like the Black Crowes, you’ll love the bluesy vocals of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.  The Brotherhood includes (obviously) Chris Robinson, Adam MacDougall of the Black Crows, George Sluppick, Mark Dutton and Neal Casal.  Buy tickets early because nothing fills a venue faster than a member of the Black Keys.

Treme Brass Band (d.b.a 10 PM)

Hit the streets of Frenchman to see this New Orleans favorite, Treme Brass Band.  Along with Rebirth and the Dirty Dozen, Treme, led by Benny Jones, Sr. is one of the top local brass bands.  They have featured renowned musicians like Kermit Ruffins, James Andrews andd Frederick Sheppard.

Circus Circus Circus (Big Top 9 PM)

It’s performance night for the 3 Ring Circus artists and exhibitionists.  Check out what Tuesday brings in the month long events brought to you by Big Top and 3 Ring Circus.
