Today in New Orleans: 9.30.12

Today, the Saints take on the Packers in hopes of securing an exhale win, Lindy Hop Fest winds up with a big parade through da Quarter, more fests focus on film, music and art, and more! On this day in New Orleans history, jazz drummer Bernard "Bunchy" Johnson, who played with the greats from Allen Toussaint to Irma Thomas to Ernie K-Doe, was born (1952). Now for today's complete skinny:

Saints v. Packers (3:30 p.m., Lambeau Field, Green Bay) We barely even have to say that the Saints need a win, but that doesn't mean we won't be behind our Boys. Pull up a barstool and watch the drama unfold again.

Lindy Hop Festival (All Day, French Quarter) The New Orleans Swing Dance Festival comes to a close today. Among other activities, there's a parade planned at 5 p.m. to close out this jive. Departing from the French Market, the procession will feature music from the Royal Street Wreckers, and head through the streets of the Quarter. Details here.

Timecode NOLA Film Fest (Various locations, 7 p.m. - til) From Docs in the Park to a Nomading film fest tonight, see what New Orleans' up-and-coming filmmakers have been up to in this first-ever film fest. Detailshere.

NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival (Lafayette Square and beyond, All Day) In coordination with the Cutting Edge Music Conference, this fest showcases local bands from across genres. Check out the lineup here.

Hot 8 Brass Band (Howlin' Wolf, 9:30pm) Close out your weekend on a high note at Howlin' Wolf as the Hot 8 Brass Band take the stage for their weekly gig.

Church (Dragon's Den, 10pm) Worship the music well before Voodoo Fest weekend at Dragon's Den's weekly dubstep and bass event. Enter a congregation where the phrase “last night dubstep saved my life” might just be fact.

NOLA Theatre! (Various Stages) The New Orleans theatre community continues to run wild across town tonight. It's Balm in Gilead's closing weekend, and Jesus Christ Superstar's opener. Plus a whole lot more! Full schedule here.
