Today in New Orleans 10.11.12

Tonight, indulge in some mobile cuisine at the Central City Food Truck Fest, head to the Ogden for some after hours fun, or stop by the Irish House and hear some live music for local artist Sheik Richardson. In the Bywater, Kermit Ruffins and his BBQ Swingers will be serving up red beans and jamming for their weekly gig. On this day in Louisiana history, Louis Armstrong married his third wife, Alpha Smith, in 1938. Now more for Thursday’s events.

Central City Food Truck Fest (2000 O.C. Haley, 5pm)

The food trucks are coming to Oretha Castle Haley! Come hungry this evening and sample some of New Orleans’ finest mobile restaurants at the Inaugural Food Truck Fest. Meet representatives from local non profit Good Work Network, and get a taste of Central City, one of New Orleans’ richest food destinations.

Morris Jeff Community School Gala (Fair Grounds Club House, 6:30-9:30pm)

Tonight, see performances from Rebirth Brass Band and Michaela Harrison, enjoy food and drinks from local restaurants like Mandina’s and Ruby Slipper, and support public education in New Orleans! Find tickets here for 50 dollars or purchase at the door until 7:30pm.

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum, 6-8pm)

This week’s after hours event features music from guitarist and vocalist John Mooney. Bring the kids for some O Fun art making, and bring your appetite for Miss Linda’s Soul Food Catering. Admission is $10, and it’s free for members of the Ogden.

Sheik Richardson Benefit (Irish House, 7pm)

Local musician Sheik Richardson recently suffered a heart attack, and some of his fellow artists are gathering tonight to raise money to pay their friend’s medical bills. Artists such as Dr. Michael White, Charlie Miller, and Mark Brooks will play at the Irish House, 1432 St. Charles.

Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers (Vaughn’s, 7pm)

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for one of the city’s favorite and most famous weekly gigs. Come to Vaughn’s for red beans, drinks, and some of the best music in the Big Easy.
