Today in New Orleans 5.21.13

Tonight, grub out in Broadmoor, check out DJ Soul Sister’s weekly film screening, or enjoy some chamber music at the JCC. On this day in 1958, the segregation of the New Orleans streetcars officially ended. Now, more to do this Tuesday.

Rolling Through Food Truck Fest (4300 S. Broad Street, 5pm-9pm)

It’s Broadmoor’s turn to get fresh mobile grub, so come out for Empanada Intifada, La Cocinita, NOLA Pie Guy, Grilling Shelling, Brigade Coffee, Dat Dog Express, Frencheeze, and more.

Musically Speaking: Calle 54 (Antenna Gallery, 7pm)

DJ Soul Sister’s free film series is back this week. Fernando Trueba directed the film, released in 2000. Trueba follows 13 legendary Latin Jazz artists to ten cities, and the film traces the artists’ universal passion for the vibrant, energetic style of music.

Birdfoot Chamber Music Festival (JCC, 7:30pm)

Tonight, get some behind-the-scenes knowledge at Birdfoot Backstage with WWNO 89.9, at the Jewish Community Center. New Orleans’ weeklong celebration of classical music culminates in Friday’s Final Gala Concert at Tulane’s Dixon Hall. Call 451-6578 for additional information.

Rebirth Brass Band (Maple Leaf, 10pm)

Come out to Oak for not one, but two sets from the double Grammy-winning brass band. Rebirth has performed all over the world, but they love playing for their local fans.

Crescent City Farmer's Market (Riverbend Market, 9am-1pm)

Make groceries Uptown today, and support local farmers and growers from all over the state. Dozens of vendors come from all over Louisiana every Tuesday to bring fresh seafood, produce, baked goods, meat, and more to the Riverbend (formerly Uptown Square).
