Today in New Orleans 6.27.13

Tonight, Ogden After Hours with Andrew Duhon, and the last Thursdays at Twilight with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans. On this day in 1833, Captain Henry Shreve cleared the Red River in what is now Shreveport. Now, more to do this Thursday.


Andrew Duhon (Ogden After Hours, 6pm-8pm)

The Ogden welcomes songwriter Duhon, performing tracks from his albums Songs I Wrote Before I Knew You, and Dreaming When You Leave. Enjoy art after hours, food from Miss Linda’s Soul Food Catering, O Yum cocktail specials, a full bar, and activities for the kids on the second floor. Admission is $10, free for Ogden members.


Thursdays at Twilight (City Park’s Botanical Gardens, 6pm-8pm)

Tonight, the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans will honor Moses Hogan’s music, ten years after his passing. Enjoy the last Thursday night event this summer, with mint juleps, food, music, and more in the Gardens. Admission is $10.


Swamp Lilies, Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue (Gasa Gasa, 8pm)

Enjoy some country swing, outlaw country covers, and honky tonk tonight at Freret’s latest music venue. Swamp Lilies present Gal Holiday’s Revue, with their old time Appalachian, Cajun, creole, and even some bluesy sounds.


4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra, Panorama Jazz Band (Hi Ho Lounge, 9pm)

The eight-piece jazz ensemble from Atlanta, Georgia, combines West African rhythms with Eastern European Klezmer music. Also enjoy some New Orleans brass from Panorama.


DJ Questlove and DJ Soul Sister (Tipitina's, 9pm)

Questlove of the Grammy-winning hip-hop group The Roots is in NOLA tonight, taking to the stage with New Orleans' own DJ Soul Sister. Come see the pair tonight. Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are $17.
