Today in New Orleans 10.03.12It’s a Wednesday packed with activities around the Big Easy, whether you’re in the mood for a free show after work or a concert from one of the three big acts in town tonight. Music lovers can choose from Victor Wooten at the Howlin’ Wolf, Dinosaur Jr. Uptown, and Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes in the Treme. On this date in our state’s history, Hurricane Hilda hit St. Mary Parish in 1964, causing 100 million dollars in damages. Now for today’s events:
Harvest the Music (Lafayette Square, 5pm)
After work, stop by the Sqaure to see some of the city’s most gifted musicians. This week Anders Osborne is playing with Dave Malone and the Bonerama Horn. The show is free, but indulge in some of the food and beverages from local vendors, all proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes (Mahalia Jackson Theatre, 8pm)
The eccentric Indie Rock Collective is coming to the Big Easy, and they’re taking Clap Your Hands Say Yeah with them to open the show. Tickets can be purchased online for $40.
Dinosaur Jr. (Tipitina’s, 9pm)
The Alternative college rock band is making a stop in the Big Easy, and Shearwater is opening. Get tickets for $22 ahead of time, $25 day of the show. Doors open at 8pm and show starts at 9pm, you can buy tickets here.
Tom McDermott and Meschiya Lake (Chickie Wah Wah, 8pm)
Come see the jazz singer with one of the city’s sultriest voices belt it out to the sound of legendary McDermott on the keys. Tickets for the weekly Wednesday gig are only $8 at the door.
Victor Wooten (Howlin’ Wolf, 10pm)
He’s won five Grammy Awards and played all over the world, and Victor Wooten is stopping in New Orleans on his most recent tour. Come see the jazz/funk bassist for only $20, you can buy tickets here. |
